Springfield, IL — February 3, 2026 — The City of Springfield, in partnership with the Office of Community Relations, is set to launch the Springfield Minority Business Institute (SMBI), a new multi-week educational initiative beginning in February 2026. The program aims to support minority-owned businesses and nonprofit organizations through targeted instruction, access to resources, and meaningful networking opportunities.
Program Details
The 2026 SMBI will take place on Wednesdays from February through March, with classes held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony on April 1, 2026, at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS).
