St. Petersburg, FL — February 17, 2026 — Here’s a quick look at what’s shaping life around the city today, from deepening drought concerns to big events on the waterfront.
Stage 2 drought warning and tighter water rules
Much of the Tampa Bay region, including St. Petersburg, remains under a Stage 2 drought warning as severe to extreme dry conditions drag on. Regional water managers say rainfall has been well below normal, and outdoor irrigation is now limited to once per week for most homes and businesses through at least July.
Residents are being urged to cut back on all nonessential outdoor water use, fix leaks quickly, and consider drought-tolerant landscaping. Officials note that outdoor watering can account for roughly half of typical household water use, so small changes at home can have a big impact on the area’s strained supplies.
Festivals of Speed packs Vinoy Park
Downtown St. Petersburg’s Vinoy Park shifted into high gear over the weekend as the Festivals of Speed returned for its 21st year. The Sunday showcase brought more than 250 exotic, classic, and muscle cars, along with motorcycles and luxury brands, to the waterfront lawn.
Visitors strolled the bayside park to see everything from vintage icons to modern supercars, with race boats and other specialty vehicles adding to the spectacle. Food, drinks, music, and awards rounded out the event, which has become one of the city’s signature luxury motorsports gatherings each February.
Looking ahead: zine fest, live music and more
The week ahead brings a mix of arts and nightlife. On Saturday, February 21, the St. Pete Zine Fest returns to the West St. Petersburg Community Library at St. Petersburg College’s Gibbs campus. The free, daytime event highlights independent publishing, with local and regional artists, writers, and small presses offering zines, demos, and hands-on activities.
Closer to downtown, Ruby’s Elixir continues its nightly slate of live music, with local acts scheduled this evening from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on 3rd Street North. Organizers promote the series as a showcase for Florida talent, giving residents and visitors a relaxed spot to hear jazz, blues, and rock in the city’s core.
Meanwhile, a busy late-February calendar is building, from seafood and music festivals to the Firestone Grand Prix later in the month, promising more crowds and road closures around the city’s waterfront streets.
Public safety update
On the law enforcement front, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reports the recent arrest of a St. Petersburg man in a child pornography case investigated by its cyber unit. Deputies say the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to target online exploitation in the county.
