St. Robert warns of eastbound I-44 lane closure beginning July 19
Drivers traveling eastbound on Interstate 44 near St. Robert should prepare for a scheduled lane closure beginning July 19, 2026, as construction continues on the Missouri Department of Transportation’s I-44 widening project.
The City of St. Robert posted the notice July 16 and directed residents and motorists to account for the traffic change. The closure affects a major route serving St. Robert and Fort Leonard Wood, as well as businesses and other destinations near the interstate.
Motorists traveling through the work area should be prepared for changing lanes and possible delays. Drivers heading to Fort Leonard Wood, commuting through St. Robert or using I-44 for local business access may need to allow additional travel time once the scheduled change begins.
What the city notice says
The lane closure is associated with MoDOT’s ongoing widening project in the St. Robert area. The city identified July 19 as the start date but did not state an end date for this particular traffic change. It also did not identify the exact lane configuration, whether the work would follow a nighttime schedule or how much delay drivers should expect.
Those conditions can affect how motorists approach the interstate. Drivers should follow roadway signs and traffic-control devices in the work zone, watch for merging traffic and leave extra time for eastbound trips.
Recent change at Exit 159
The scheduled eastbound closure follows another interstate access update in St. Robert. The city previously reported that an extended westbound I-44 on-ramp from Business Loop 44 at Exit 159 opened to traffic June 24, 2026.
The Exit 159 ramp opening changed westbound access while the broader widening work continued. The newly scheduled eastbound lane closure represents another change for people using I-44 through the city.
For now, the key date for eastbound travelers is July 19. Residents, commuters, military traffic and other motorists should plan for the revised traffic pattern and be alert for signs directing vehicles through the construction area. The city’s notice connects the closure to the widening project, but provides no separate completion date for the closure itself.
