Sun Metro Rising starts June 14 in El Paso: new routes + Upper East microtransit
Sun Metro Rising takes effect June 14. Here’s what changes for riders—especially Upper East electric Microtransit booking—and how to check your stop.
Sun Metro Rising takes effect Sunday, June 14, 2026. Sun Metro says the update brings redesigned routes, updated schedules, and route changes that may include realignments, consolidations, and deactivations.
For many riders in Upper East El Paso, the biggest day-one change is a new on-demand, all-electric Microtransit pilot. Unlike a typical bus route, Microtransit uses Super Stops and requires booking during set operating hours.
Quick start: do this before your Monday ride
- Check your specific stop and route on Sun Metro’s Service Modifications materials for the June 14 effective date.
- If you’re in the Upper East area, look for whether your trip can connect to Microtransit Super Stops.
- If you plan to use Microtransit, book during the time windows shown in the tabloid—Microtransit is not a walk-up substitute for fixed-route service.
What’s changing citywide on June 14
Sun Metro’s Service Modifications page lists routes marked modified, realigned, and deactivated, along with directions to substitute options (depending on the route). For example, Sun Metro lists Route 4 (Union Plaza Circulator) as deactivated and directs riders to other options.
Because route-by-route changes differ by neighborhood, riders should treat Sun Metro’s published guidance as the starting point for Monday trip planning.
Upper East highlight: Microtransit uses “Super Stops”
Sun Metro says Microtransit is a pilot program serving the Upper East El Paso area. The tabloid shows a map of Microtransit Super Stop locations (including Upper East TOC / Bay B).
Important: Microtransit pickup/dropoff is tied to Super Stop locations. Standard fixed-route stops are not the same thing.
How Microtransit booking works (three ways)
To request Microtransit service, Sun Metro’s tabloid lists three booking methods:
- Via the Ride Sun Metro app
- By calling 915.212.RIDE (7433)
- Using the Microtransit booking website listed in the tabloid
Operating hours riders must follow
According to the June 14 tabloid, Microtransit operating hours are:
- Monday–Friday: 6am–11am & 2pm–7pm
- Sun Metro Sunday/holiday schedules: does not operate on designated Sun Metro Sunday/holiday schedules
First-week expectations: what to double-check
- Confirm your stop/route on Sun Metro’s Service Modifications materials before you rely on Monday morning travel times.
- If using Microtransit, start from the Super Stop map and make sure you can book during the listed time windows.
- For the most accurate day-by-day details as the change begins, use Sun Metro’s Sun Metro Rising materials alongside the Service Modifications page.
Finally, Sun Metro’s media advisory states Microtransit was supported by $720,000 in federal funding secured by Congresswoman Veronica Escobar—intended for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
