Syracuse Gas Holds Near $4.24 as Diesel Climbs to $5.47

Regular gasoline is barely moving in the Syracuse area, while diesel prices are climbing. AAA’s July 31, 2026, Syracuse metro price check listed regular gas at $4.236 per gallon and diesel at $5.473.

Regular gas remains nearly flat

The Syracuse-area regular gasoline average was down about 1 cent from the previous day and up about 1 cent from a week earlier. It was about 1.4 cents higher than a month ago and $1.136 higher than a year ago.

That means drivers may not see a major day-to-day change at the pump, but the longer comparison remains significant. A household filling a larger vehicle or commuting long distances is still paying substantially more than it did during the same period last year.

Diesel is moving higher

Diesel showed a sharper short-term increase. AAA listed the Syracuse metro average at $5.473 per gallon, up about 1.7 cents from the prior day and 7.5 cents from the previous week.

The diesel average was about 4 cents lower than a month ago but $1.632 higher than a year ago. The separate movements matter because diesel costs affect more than personal vehicles. Contractors, landscapers, repair companies, delivery operators, restaurants and other service businesses may face higher operating costs when their vehicles or equipment require diesel.

Broader regional context

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s July 27 regional data showed Central Atlantic regular gasoline at $4.174 per gallon, up 7.6 cents from the previous week. Central Atlantic on-highway diesel was $5.579 per gallon, up 20.9 cents week over week.

The EIA figures are regional benchmarks, not Syracuse station prices. They provide broader context for the local trend, while AAA’s Syracuse row is the relevant metro-area average for this update.

What drivers and businesses should watch

Commuters and weekend travelers may see different prices from one station to the next, even when the metro average changes only slightly. Diesel-dependent businesses have a more immediate reason to compare suppliers and monitor weekly movement because fuel is tied directly to delivery routes, equipment use and service calls.

AAA’s figures are averages across the Syracuse metro area, not prices at every pump. Before filling up, drivers should compare nearby stations and check whether loyalty discounts or cash prices change the final cost.
