Tampa, FL – February 26, 2026 – Burn ban extended, Rays stadium land moves ahead, river cleanup underway, and 10 new history markers arrive.

Top headlines
Emergency burn ban extended in Hillsborough County
County leaders extended the emergency ban on outdoor open burning again on Feb. 26, continuing restrictions meant to lower wildfire risk during unusually dry conditions.
The order keeps open burning off-limits and also bans fireworks, sparklers, and fire pits. Outdoor cooking is still allowed if flames stay contained in a grill and are constantly attended.
Rays stadium negotiations take a step forward on Dale Mabry
State leaders approved moving about 22 acres of state-controlled land into the redevelopment conversation around Hillsborough College’s Dale Mabry campus, where a new Rays ballpark and mixed-use district have been floated.
The land decision does not lock in a final stadium deal or public financing, but it does formalize a key piece of real estate and sets requirements for future planning tied to the college campus.
Weekend traffic advisory for downtown events
The city is warning drivers to expect congestion and limited on-street parking Feb. 27 through March 1, with multiple big events scheduled across downtown and nearby venues.
- If you can, consider transit options like the TECO Streetcar, Dash service, buses, bikes, or scooters.
- Leave extra time for event traffic and last-minute detours.
Hillsborough River cleanup targets dumped debris
City crews, partner agencies, and volunteer divers are working to remove trash and large items from the Hillsborough River, part of ongoing efforts to keep the waterway safer and healthier.
Officials reminded residents that dumping into waterways and storm drains is illegal and can bring fines, especially when debris can wash downstream and clog the system.
Ten new historical markers added across Tampa
Ten new markers are being placed around the city as part of a broader effort to document local Black history in public spaces. The markers are being added to Soulwalk, a self-guided arts and heritage trail that stretches across dozens of miles and neighborhoods.
