Tinley Park Storm Cleanup Continues After July 27 Damage, Outages and Village Hall Closure
Tinley Park storm cleanup continued Tuesday after July 27 damage and outages, with residents urged to report debris and avoid downed power lines.
Tinley Park remained in storm-recovery mode Tuesday, July 28, after severe weather on Monday, July 27, caused power outages, downed trees, debris and damage across the village.
The National Weather Service included Tinley Park in a severe thunderstorm warning for southeastern Cook County. The warning cited radar-indicated wind gusts of up to 60 mph and hail up to 1.25 inches. Those were warned hazards, not a confirmation that a tornado struck Tinley Park or that those wind speeds were measured at a specific location in the village.
Monday outage figures were still changing
Tinley Park Patch reported that more than 3,000 ComEd customers in the village were without power at 2:15 p.m. Monday, down from approximately 4,000 immediately after the storms. Those were dated Monday afternoon figures, not a current Tuesday outage total.
Village Hall at 16250 Oak Park Ave. was closed for the remainder of Monday afternoon after the building lost power. The sources reviewed for this update did not establish a separate Tuesday reopening or altered-access notice. Residents who need in-person village services should confirm operating status before visiting by calling Village Hall at 708-444-5000.
How to report storm debris
Tinley Park Public Works crews began clearing storm debris. Residents with downed trees or branches on their property were directed to call Public Works at 708-444-5500 or email tppw@tinleypark.org so the location can be added to the cleanup list.
When reporting debris, residents should explain whether it is blocking a street, sidewalk or driveway. Cleanup timing may depend on the location and severity of the obstruction. Residents should avoid unstable trees, damaged structures and areas near electrical equipment.
Downed-line safety remains critical
ComEd says residents should never approach or touch a downed power line. Every downed line should be treated as energized and extremely dangerous. Report it to ComEd at 1-800-334-7661 or call Tinley Park’s non-emergency line at 708-532-9111. Call 911 for an immediate threat to life or safety.
ComEd said Tuesday that more than 2,300 workers were involved in restoration efforts across its service territory. CBS Chicago reported that the utility described the response as a multi-day restoration effort and was working to provide more localized restoration estimates.
Outage totals and estimated restoration times can change as crews inspect damage, isolate hazards and make repairs. Residents can use ComEd’s outage tracker and reporting tools for the latest information. Until power is restored and damaged areas are cleared, keep away from downed lines, blocked roads and damaged structures.
