Top local headlines for Monday
Toledo is starting the week with a mix of public-safety developments, a strong showing from the Rockets, and a couple of calendar items worth circling.
High-speed chases lead to felony charges
Two separate police pursuits late last week are now moving through Lucas County court. In one case, officers say a traffic stop escalated into a high-speed chase that ended in a crash, followed by the recovery of weapons and suspected drugs from the vehicle. In the other, police allege a second driver fled, struck other cars, and was later arrested after the vehicle became disabled, with additional weapons and suspected narcotics found. Both cases were scheduled for court appearances on Monday.
Rockets win on the road, strengthen tournament position
The University of Toledo men’s basketball team handled Ohio, 79-67, on Saturday in Athens. Toledo built a first-half lead and held on through an Ohio push in the second half, getting big scoring nights from Leroy Blyden Jr. and Sonny Wilson. The win helped Toledo lock in a favorable seed range for the Mid-American Conference tournament, with the regular season continuing Tuesday at Miami.
Restaurant Week begins today
Restaurant Week Toledo runs March 2 through March 8, featuring set-price specials at participating locally owned restaurants across the city. Organizers say a portion of proceeds supports Leadership Toledo youth programs, and diners can track visits through a digital passport. If you have out-of-town guests in for the week, this is an easy way to showcase neighborhood favorites without overplanning.
Her Hockey Night at the Huntington Center
Downtown also hosted a themed Walleye night Sunday that highlighted women in sports, with a professional networking event tied to the game, plus Girl Scout Night and a postgame open skate. Even if you missed the Sunday puck drop, the team is using these community nights to keep the arena calendar busy heading deeper into the season.
