Toledo Today: Pothole Blitz, Deadly Crash, Warmup Weather Shape Midweek Headlines
Toledo, OH – February 18, 2026 – City launches pothole blitz as warm, wet weather returns; police probe fatal motorcycle crash; Rockets, Walleye eye big weeks.
Toledo, OH – February 18, 2026 – Here is a quick look at what is shaping the day around the Glass City, from streets and safety to sports and the skies.
City crews launch intensive ‘pothole blitz’
Toledo road crews are in the middle of a citywide ‘pothole blitz’ aimed at fixing thousands of winter-damaged spots in just a few days. The push began Tuesday and is set to continue through the week, with a goal of filling around 7,500 potholes as temperatures run well above freezing.
Crews are focusing first on major routes and high-traffic areas. Residents are being urged to report problem spots with clear location details so workers can move quickly from neighborhood to neighborhood.
Police investigate deadly motorcycle crash
Toledo Police are still investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Sunday evening near the Cherry Street roundabout. Officers say a man riding northbound lost control and wrecked; he later died from his injuries.
Witnesses reported that the rider appeared to be going around another vehicle shortly before the crash. Police noted the man was not wearing a helmet. His name has not been released as authorities work to notify relatives and complete the crash report.
Unseasonably warm, windy stretch continues
After a brief round of showers, Toledo is looking at another afternoon in the 50s and even 60s this week, well above normal for mid-February. Forecasters say scattered rain and a few rumbles of thunder are possible, with gusty winds heading into Friday as another system moves through.
The warmup is helping road crews work longer hours on repairs, but it is also creating slick spots during heavier showers and standing water in low-lying intersections. Drivers are urged to slow down around work zones and give extra space to city trucks.
Rockets and Walleye hit key mid-season stretch
The University of Toledo Rockets head into a busy week with road and home action across several sports. Women’s basketball is on a two-game road swing, while the men host Eastern Michigan later this week in a key conference matchup. Baseball is opening a series on the road as it settles into its early-season schedule.
On the ice, the Toledo Walleye remain near the top of their division after a tight three-game weekend that included two one-goal losses and a win. A strong power play has been driving the club, and a road trip later this week will test their place in the standings as the playoff race tightens.
