Union’s Arts Center and Library complex sets theater, concerts and blood drive
Union Township’s Arts Center and Library complex at 1980 Morris Avenue is scheduled to host a July theater production, two summer concerts and an August blood drive, giving residents several public events to mark on the 2026 calendar.
The township’s official notices identify the complex as the home of the DMK Theater. A notice dated May 6 lists a theater production running from July 17 through July 19.
Events scheduled at Union venues
The township also announced a town-wide blood drive for Aug. 26 at the Union Arts Center. The event is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m.
Union’s summer concert series includes performances at Rabkin Park on July 23 and July 30. The township and the Union Recreation Department said the concerts will move indoors to Union High School if weather requires a relocation.
For residents, the announced schedule creates a sequence of public dates across the summer: the theater run in July, the two concerts at the end of the month and the blood drive in August. The approved notices establish the venues, dates and weather contingency, but they do not provide additional details about the theater production or the concert performers.
Separate safety planning near schools
Alongside the arts and public-service programming, Union has been developing a Local Safety Action Plan. The township’s draft plan focuses on safety issues, particularly in areas near schools.
The township says development work for the plan took place from fall 2025 through summer 2026. That timeline places the planning effort alongside the 2026 event announcements, but the plan remains identified as a draft in the approved materials.
The available documents do not establish that the plan has produced funded construction, traffic changes or other completed safety work. They also do not establish the plan’s final adoption status or its specific recommended projects. The plan may guide future improvements near schools, but no adopted project or funding commitment is identified here.
What remains unclear
The township’s notices describe the Arts Center and Library complex as new, but the approved materials do not establish when it opened. They also do not provide a construction cost or operating budget.
The May 6 theater notice, the June 16 concert announcement and the draft safety plan dated July 1 are official township materials. The theater and concert announcements have not been independently confirmed by a second outlet in the approved packet.
The next known public dates are July 17–19 for the DMK Theater production, July 23 and July 30 for the Rabkin Park concerts, and Aug. 26 from 2 to 6 p.m. for the blood drive. The safety plan’s final action and any resulting projects remain unresolved in the available materials.
