United States: Nara Organics formula recall follows 3 infant botulism cases

Federal health officials are warning parents and caregivers to stop using Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula after the FDA and CDC linked it to an ongoing multistate infant botulism investigation.

As of the June 13-14 updates, three infants in California, Pennsylvania and Washington had been hospitalized. The investigation is still open.

Where the formula was sold

Nara Organics recalled all lots of the product on June 13. The FDA says the formula was sold nationally through Target stores, Target.com and Nara.com.

What symptoms to watch for

The CDC says infant botulism is rare but serious. Symptoms can include constipation, poor feeding, a weak cry, loss of head control, trouble swallowing and trouble breathing.

Parents and caregivers should stop using the recalled formula, check the lot codes on the can and watch infants closely for warning signs. If an infant has already consumed the product and symptoms appear, seek medical care right away.
