Water Advisories, Severe Weather Threat and Book Festival Lead Local Headlines

Boil Water Advisory After Main Break

A water main rupture near Carrollton Avenue and Panola Street early March 9 left much of the East Bank under a boil water advisory. The advisory was lifted Tuesday, but it marked the third major water main break in just over a month.

Residents in several neighborhoods reported low water pressure and disruptions to daily routines. Some say the repeated advisories are adding financial strain, as families rely on bottled water for drinking, cooking and basic hygiene.

City officials say repairs were completed and water quality testing cleared the system, but concerns remain about aging infrastructure.

Severe Weather Threat Moves Through

New Orleans also faced a round of strong storms late Wednesday into early Thursday. Forecasters warned of damaging winds, heavy rain and the possibility of isolated tornadoes as a line of storms moved across the region.

Rain totals of 1 to 2 inches were expected, followed by a noticeable cooldown. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 60s after highs in the 80s earlier this week, with breezy conditions lingering into the weekend.

Book Festival Returns to Tulane

On a brighter note, the New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University opens today and runs through March 15. The free event brings more than 250 authors, chefs and thought leaders to campus for panels, book signings and family programming.

This year’s festival includes more than 100 discussions, a culinary track featuring prominent local and national voices, and expanded activities for children. Organizers expect strong turnout as the festival continues to grow into a signature spring event for the city.
