Waterloo flood warning keeps Black Hawk Creek, Ranchero Road in view
Black Hawk Creek in Waterloo remains under a flood warning through this afternoon, with Ranchero Road near the waterline and the stage just above flood stage.
A flood warning remains in effect for Black Hawk Creek in Waterloo until this afternoon. The National Weather Service says the warning covers the reach from the Black Hawk-Grundy county line to the Cedar River in Waterloo.
The warning says Black Hawk Creek was at 15.6 feet at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, just above the 15.0-foot flood stage. It also says Ranchero Road closes at 16.0 feet and that some residential evacuations may occur at that level.
Black Hawk County says its Engineer’s Office routinely closes or embargoes roads and bridges during flooding and directs drivers to its road notifications map and Iowa 511 for travel updates. The county also warns that water over a roadway can hide damage and that even 12 inches of water can move many vehicles.
