Westside Village Breaks Ground, Tourism Milestones Mark Busy Week in Fort Worth
Fort Worth, TX – March 8, 2026 – Major development breaks ground, tourism leaders mark milestones, and storms sweep North Texas this weekend.
$1.7B Westside Village Breaks Ground
After years of planning, city leaders and developers officially broke ground March 5 on the long-anticipated Westside Village project. The $1.7 billion mixed-use development is rising on Fort Worth’s west side and is expected to bring new housing, retail, dining, and public spaces to the area.
Shovels hit the dirt during a ceremonial kickoff that marked one of the largest private development investments in recent city history. Supporters say the project will transform a key corridor and generate long-term economic growth, while creating jobs during both construction and permanent operations.
Convention Center, Civic Leaders Honored
Fort Worth’s hospitality community also gathered this week to celebrate progress at the downtown convention center and recognize major civic contributions. During a public event on March 6, Visit Fort Worth leaders highlighted updates tied to the convention center campus, including renewed attention to its iconic dome structure.
The event also honored longtime community figures, including outgoing school district leadership and former city officials whose impact has shaped Fort Worth’s growth over the past decade. The gathering served as both a look ahead at tourism expansion and a reflection on recent milestones.
Severe Weather Sweeps Through North Texas
Meanwhile, stormy weather moved across North Texas late last week. The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth issued severe thunderstorm warnings on March 5 as strong cells pushed through the region.
Heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds were reported in parts of the Metroplex. While the most intense impacts were scattered, officials urged residents to monitor alerts and use caution during periods of heavy rainfall.
With spring weather patterns settling in, city and county agencies are reminding residents to stay weather-aware in the weeks ahead.
