Meteorologist Nick Luchetti noted that the storm has exceeded initial expectations, with potential for snowfall to reach 5 to 6 inches if it continues throughout the day.
Travel Disruptions
The inclement weather has led to hazardous travel conditions. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has deployed crews to brine and plow roads, focusing on interstates and major routes. By Saturday morning, over 5,500 tons of salt had been applied statewide. Despite these efforts, travel disruptions are mounting. Approximately 40 flights have been canceled at Piedmont Triad International Airport, and public transportation in Winston-Salem has been suspended.
