Lucid recalls 27,185 Air sedans over fire risk

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration acknowledged Lucid’s recall of 27,185 Air sedans in the United States after the automaker reported that an exterior-lighting circuit may overheat and increase the risk of fire.

The August 27, 2026, acknowledgment carries NHTSA campaign number 26V540. Lucid’s recall number is SR-26-06-0. NHTSA advises owners of affected vehicles to park outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed.

Which Lucid vehicles are covered

The recall covers certain model-year 2022 through 2026 Lucid Air sedans. It does not apply to every Lucid vehicle. Owners should confirm whether a specific car is included by checking its vehicle identification number through NHTSA’s recall lookup system.

The reported defect involves an exterior-lighting circuit that may not have sufficient overcurrent protection. Under certain conditions, the circuit could overheat and create a potential fire hazard.

What can go wrong

NHTSA says the problem may also cause the loss of the center brake light or front lights. A missing center brake light could make the vehicle harder for drivers behind it to see when it stops. Loss of front lighting could reduce visibility for the Lucid driver and other road users.

Those lighting failures could increase crash risk. The agency’s instruction to park outside and away from structures is a temporary precaution until the remedy is completed. It does not mean that every recalled vehicle has caught fire or will do so.

How the remedy works

Lucid has released a free over-the-air software update intended to address the problem. Reuters reported, citing NHTSA, that 20,719 affected vehicles had received the update. That figure does not establish that every vehicle covered by the recall has been repaired, so owners should verify the status of their own vehicle.

If the recall remains open, owners should follow NHTSA’s instruction to park the vehicle outside and away from buildings or other structures until the software remedy is installed.

When owners will be notified

NHTSA lists October 16, 2026, as the expected mailing date for owner notification letters. Owners do not need to wait for a letter to check whether their vehicle is included.

The immediate question for an Air owner is whether a specific vehicle remains unrepaired. Checking the VIN and completing the software update, if required, will determine whether the park-outside instruction still applies.
