National Park Service extends Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool closure through August 10

The National Park Service has extended temporary public-access restrictions around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool through Aug. 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. local time. The closure affects the reflecting pool, nearby walkways, grass medians and portions of the North Elm Walk and South Elm Walk areas in Washington, D.C.

The restrictions began June 25 and are intended to protect park resources and provide for public safety while work is undertaken. The National Mall and Memorial Parks notice does not identify the underlying project’s full scope, and it does not provide an exact sequence for reopening the affected areas.

The National Park Service said the closure footprint may shrink as equipment is removed, so some areas could reopen before the Aug. 10 deadline. The agency also said the closure will be lifted as soon as it is no longer necessary. The determination was signed July 11, and the agency’s page was updated July 14.

Until then, visitors should expect continued restrictions around the reflecting pool and the specified adjacent areas. The notice does not provide current visitor counts or an estimate of any economic effect.
