Stellantis recalls more than 1 million Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators over fire risk

Stellantis has recalled more than 1 million 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles because a defect can create a fire risk even when the vehicles are turned off, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA said it was aware of 51 fires likely related to the defect and one injury that was also reported as likely related. The agency issued an urgent warning for owners to park affected vehicles outside and away from structures until they can be repaired.

What owners should do

The park-outside instruction is the immediate safety step for owners of vehicles covered by the recall. The warning applies because the potential hazard can exist while a Jeep is not operating. Owners should follow the agency’s direction to keep an affected vehicle outdoors and away from buildings while waiting for the remedy.

The recall covers vehicles sold in the United States and requires owners to determine whether their individual vehicle is included. NHTSA maintains a searchable federal database for vehicle safety recalls and investigations, and vehicle-identification information for this recall was to be searchable through the agency.

The size of the recall does not mean that every vehicle in the population contains the defect, and it does not mean that every recalled vehicle has caught fire. The agency’s figures describe fires and an injury considered likely related to the defect, rather than a finding that all incidents involving the recalled vehicles were caused by it.

Repair timing remains unclear

The approved recall information does not provide an exact final schedule for completing the remedy. It also does not establish that repairs are already complete or universally available. A large national recall

The recall affects two widely recognized Jeep nameplates across the 2021 through 2025 model years. Because the vehicles were sold throughout the United States and the safety warning concerns a possible fire while parked, the practical impact extends beyond drivers who are currently experiencing a symptom.

NHTSA reported that 997 vehicle and equipment recalls were issued in 2025, involving more than 29 million vehicles. The agency also said recall repairs are generally provided without charge by manufacturers’ dealerships. That general policy does not supply a specific completion date for this Jeep recall, however, and the exact remedy schedule in this case was not included in the approved information.

For now, the known next step is owner verification through NHTSA’s searchable safety system and compliance with the park-outside warning until a repair is available.
