Carson City voters who want to opt out of receiving an automatically mailed ballot for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election must submit a written request by Sept. 4, according to the Carson City Clerk-Recorder/Elections Department.
The deadline is an election-administration cutoff for votersโ mail-ballot preferences. It applies to the automatic mail-ballot process and is not the date of the general election, voter registration or candidate filing.
Automatic mail ballots and the deadline
Nevada, including Carson City, automatically mails ballots unless a voter opts out, the cityโs 2026 election-information page states. For the November general election, the city identifies Sept. 4 as the deadline to make that request.
The city says the cutoff follows the stateโs statutory timeframe of 60 days before the election. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
The published deadline concerns whether a voter seeks to opt out of automatic ballot mailing. The cityโs materials do not provide a count of Carson City voters who have opted out or the number of mail ballots expected for the election.
What voters must submit
According to the Elections Department, a voter may submit a written opt-out request by emailing elections@carsoncity.gov. The request must include the last four digits of the voterโs Social Security number for verification.
The cityโs instructions establish both a submission method and verification information for voters seeking to change their automatic mail-ballot preference before the stated cutoff. The departmentโs page does not say that a request guarantees a voter will not receive a ballot; it identifies the written-request process and deadline.
Voters seeking the complete election calendar are directed by the city to the Nevada Secretary of State. Carson Cityโs election-information page is the local source identifying the opt-out deadline and the Elections Department contact point.
Key dates before Election Day
The Sept. 4 opt-out deadline comes before the cityโs listed period for early in-person voting, scheduled for Oct. 17 through Oct. 29, 2026. Early voting ends before the Nov. 3 general election.
For voters tracking the cityโs published schedule, the relevant sequence is Sept. 4 for a written opt-out request, Oct. 17-29 for early in-person voting, and Nov. 3 for the general election. The deadline is therefore a specific pre-election administrative step for Carson City voters who do not want to participate in automatic mail-ballot delivery.
