Fairbanks North Star Borough candidate-withdrawal deadline arrives Wednesday
Candidates in the Fairbanks North Star Borough’s 2026 municipal election have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, to withdraw, according to the borough’s election calendar.
The deadline follows the candidate filing period, which opened July 15 and closed July 29. It is the last listed candidate-withdrawal step before the borough’s voter-registration and voting periods begin ahead of the Oct. 6 municipal election.
The approved election information does not identify the current field of filed candidates or report whether any candidate has withdrawn. It also does not specify the individual contests or ballot measures that may appear before voters.
Key dates before Election Day
Voters who need to register online or update their voter registration have until Sept. 6, according to the borough calendar.
Early voting is scheduled to run from Sept. 21 through Oct. 1. Absentee in-person voting will be available through Oct. 5, the day before regular Election Day.
The regular municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6. Polls are set to be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
These dates establish the remaining public schedule from the close of candidate filing through voting. The withdrawal deadline can affect which candidates remain in the field before early and absentee voting begin, but the approved material does not establish whether the field will change this year.
Certification and term start
The borough calendar schedules election certification for Oct. 22. Terms for newly elected officials are scheduled to begin Oct. 26.
The election information identifies Fairbanks locations used for voting and ballot-counting functions, including Noel Wien Library, the City of Fairbanks clerk’s office and the borough administration center.
Residents seeking details about particular offices, candidates or ballot questions will need the borough’s official candidate filing records and election materials. Those details are not included in the approved calendar information.
For candidates, the immediate deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 5. For voters, the next listed deadline is Sept. 6 for online registration or voter-registration updates, followed by the Sept. 21 start of early voting.
