MaineHealth sued over proposed closure of Lincoln Hospital labor-and-delivery unit
A Lincoln County resident filed a lawsuit Aug. 5 seeking to stop MaineHealth from closing the labor-and-delivery unit at MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital in Damariscotta, putting a proposed rural maternity-service closure before the courts.
The filing creates a new legal and operational decision point for MaineHealth, the hospital and residents who rely on maternity care in rural Maine. The immediate question raised by the case is whether the proposed closure can proceed while the dispute is before the courts.
There is no indication in the reporting that a court has granted or denied the plaintiff’s request. The lawsuit is therefore an effort to prevent the proposed closure, not a final ruling on whether the unit will remain open.
Because the reporting is a discovery report rather than the court complaint or docket, details about the legal claims, requested remedies and procedural posture remain unavailable in the reporting.
