Sioux Falls rail study invites input on 130 crossings
South Dakotaโs transportation department has scheduled an Oct. 28 open house for its Sioux Falls railroad-crossing study, which covers 130 at-grade crossings across the metropolitan area.
The meeting will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the City of Sioux Falls โ City Center, 231 N. Dakota Ave. The Federal Railroad Administration describes the study area as the Sioux Falls metropolitan area, including Lincoln and Minnehaha counties, and lists up to $1 million in federal grant support for the study.
SDDOT says the analysis will identify crossings that may be candidates for closure, consolidation or other safety improvements. Public input will help inform study recommendations and future consideration of crossing-safety improvements. Comments can be submitted at the open house or through the study website by Nov. 30.
The announcement does not select a crossing for closure or another change, or commit to construction. The Oct. 28 open house is the next scheduled step in the public-input process.
