Vermont launches tool to map residents’ internet speeds
The Vermont Community Broadband Board launched VT Speed Check on Oct. 6, giving residents a website to test internet speeds, view a map of anonymously aggregated results, and find connection information and troubleshooting guidance. The Vermont Department of Public Service announced the launch.
The board encourages residents to test at different times and on different days, building a wider set of readings instead of relying on a single test. It says the combined results could help identify places needing more attention. The map displays submitted tests, not measurements at every Vermont address, so it is not a complete picture of service availability.
StateScoop reported that downloading the computer app provides more accurate location information than using the browser. For a mobile test to measure home internet service, residents should connect the phone to home Wi-Fi. Residents can also use the site’s connection information and troubleshooting guidance alongside the test and map.
