An early-morning fire on Monday, Feb. 23, caused a railroad bridge near Westgate and Sun Valley boulevards (by Pinnacle Bank Arena) to collapse. Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews responded around 3:45 a.m., but access and weight limits made it difficult to get heavy equipment close enough to attack the flames directly.

The timber bridge was deemed a total loss, and the rail line was shut down while investigators work to determine a cause. Officials also said containment steps were taken in and around Salt Creek to limit debris and runoff as crews monitored hot spots and the structure continued to smolder.

2) Lincoln East brings home two state wrestling titles

Lincoln had a strong showing at the boys state wrestling championships, with Lincoln East finishing as the Class A team runner-up. Two Spartans also earned individual titles: Ryder Kruse (165) and Colton Tucker (215).
