Rocket City Rising Focuses on Geospatial Growth

City leaders this week unveiled plans for the upcoming GEOHuntsville Summit, themed Rocket City Rising. Announced March 10, the summit will bring together experts in geospatial technology, space operations and artificial intelligence later this month at the Huntsville Botanical Garden.

Mayor Tommy Battle said the event reflects Huntsville’s continued push to lead in advanced research and mission support, building on decades of work tied to Redstone Arsenal and federal partners. Organizers say the summit will focus on practical applications of geospatial tools and workforce development, reinforcing Huntsville’s identity as a national hub for space and defense innovation.

March Madness Events Underway

Basketball fever has arrived in the Rocket City. The Conference USA tournaments are underway at the Von Braun Center, drawing teams and fans downtown as they compete for championship titles and NCAA tournament bids.

Beyond the court, local venues are leaning into the March Madness spirit. The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library kicked off a themed film series on March 10, offering residents a creative way to celebrate the season. City leaders say major tournaments and related events continue to boost hotel stays, restaurant traffic and overall downtown activity.

Civic and Professional Groups Meet Today

Community engagement is also front and center. The Society of American Military Engineers is holding its monthly Huntsville meeting today, March 12, bringing together industry professionals to discuss regional projects and partnerships.
