It has been a busy weekend for sports fans across Irvine, with action on the field and renewed attention on one of the cityโs premier athletic venues.
UC Irvine Baseball Faces Ranked Opponent
The UC Irvine Anteaters hosted No. 17 Oregon State at Cicerone Field in a three-game weekend series that began Friday, March 20, and continues through Sunday, March 22.
The series opened with a tough loss for the Anteaters on Friday night, followed by another close matchup Saturday afternoon. Sundayโs finale gives UC Irvine a chance to close out the homestand on a high note before heading back on the road next week.
Home attendance remained strong as fans turned out to support the team against one of the nationโs top-ranked programs. The early-season tests are seen as key preparation as conference play approaches.
Great Park Stadium Upgrades in the Spotlight
Meanwhile, Irvineโs Championship Soccer Stadium at the Orange County Great Park is drawing renewed attention following its recent renovation.
The 5,500-seat, soccer-specific venue completed upgrades earlier this year, enhancing facilities for players and fans alike. The improvements position the stadium as a marquee sports site within the cityโs growing Great Park complex.
City leaders and sports organizers have highlighted the venueโs role in elevating Irvineโs profile as a regional sports hub. With expanded amenities and modernized features, the stadium continues to host professional and development-level matches while serving the broader community.
Between collegiate baseball and year-round events at the Great Park, Irvineโs sports scene remains one of the cityโs most visible and active community draws this March.
