Margate gas watch: regular and diesel ease a bit, but prices stay elevated
Margate FL Gas & Diesel Watch – AAA’s Fort Lauderdale metro proxy shows regular and diesel both eased from yesterday, but weekly costs are still elevated.
AAA’s latest Fort Lauderdale metro fuel check, the closest current local proxy for Margate, puts regular gas at $4.535 a gallon and diesel at $5.453 as of May 8, 2026. Regular is down 1.3 cents from yesterday and diesel is down 1.2 cents, but both remain costly for commuters and work vehicles.
Regular gas is still 21.7 cents higher than a week ago, 33.2 cents above a month ago, and 156.0 cents above a year ago. That means the daily dip is welcome, but it does not change the bigger budget picture for households, rides to work, school pickups, or weekend driving.
Diesel tells a different story: it is only 0.7 cents higher than a week ago, 34.8 cents below a month ago, and 217.1 cents above a year ago. For landscapers, contractors, delivery fleets, and service businesses, that kind of year-over-year jump still filters into fuel budgets and billing.
Margate is an official city, but AAA’s current local row is the Fort Lauderdale metro average rather than a Margate-only figure. For broader context, Florida’s average is $4.498 for regular and $5.357 for diesel, while the U.S. average is $4.546 for regular and $5.663 for diesel. EIA’s May 5 update, covering the week ending May 4, showed U.S. regular at $4.452 and diesel at $5.640.
For now, the best advice is still to shop around station to station, since the metro average is only a benchmark. If you are filling up in Margate or nearby, share the highest and lowest pump prices you are seeing.
