McAllen Gas Prices Ease as Diesel Rises Above $5 in AAA Check
AAAโs July 29 check found lower regular-gas prices across the McAllen metro, while diesel rose above $5. A local station shows why pumps vary.
Regular gasoline prices eased across the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metro in AAAโs July 29, 2026 check, while diesel prices moved higher and remained above $5 per gallon on average.
AAA listed regular gasoline at an average of $3.543 per gallon in the metro area. That was down 3.5 cents from the previous day and 21.6 cents from a week earlier. For commuters, parents making school and activity trips, households running errands and weekend travelers, the weekly decline offers some relief at the pump.
Diesel moved in the opposite direction
The metro average for diesel was $5.162 per gallon, according to AAA. Diesel was up 6.1 cents from the previous day and 18 cents from a week earlier.
That difference matters for diesel-powered work trucks, delivery fleets, farm equipment, construction vehicles and other commercial transportation. Higher diesel costs can affect contractors and service businesses directly. Restaurants, retailers and other businesses may also feel transportation costs through deliveries, supply runs and other operating expenses.
A McAllen station shows why averages vary
The official 7-Eleven listing for the station at 4829 N. 10th Street in McAllen showed regular gasoline at $3.459 per gallon and diesel at $5.169. The page says its gas prices are updated within 24 hours, so the listing is a station-level snapshot rather than a guaranteed real-time pump price.
That stationโs regular-gas price was below the AAA metro average, while its listed diesel price was slightly above the metro average. The comparison shows why individual pump prices should not be confused with a regional average. Prices can differ by location, competition, taxes and the time each source updates its information.
For households, the separate movements mean the effect depends partly on the vehicle being fueled. Gasoline drivers saw lower average prices than the previous day and week, while diesel users faced a higher average. High-mileage commuters, delivery drivers, farmers, contractors and businesses with frequent vehicle use are likely to notice changes more quickly than drivers who fill up only occasionally.
Drivers comparing prices should check the pump or station listing shortly before filling up rather than relying only on a regional average. The AAA figure covers the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metro, not just the city of McAllen.
