McAllen Gas Falls to $3.46 Metro Average; Diesel Eases to $5.12
McAllen-area regular gas fell to a $3.464 metro average July 31, while diesel eased to $5.116 but remained higher than a week earlier.
Regular gasoline and diesel prices both moved lower in the latest AAA check for the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metro, but the weekly picture was different for each fuel. Regular gas fell to an average of $3.464 per gallon, while diesel declined to $5.116.
AAAโs figures are metro averages, not the average price at McAllen city stations. The latest table is dated July 31, 2026, and compares the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area with earlier AAA readings.
Regular gas fell across each comparison window
The metro regular-gas average was down 2.6 cents from the previous day, when AAA listed it at $3.490. It was also 25.5 cents lower than the $3.719 average recorded a week earlier.
Even after the weekly decline, regular gas remained substantially more expensive than a year ago. The current average was 86.2 cents higher than the year-ago figure of $2.602 per gallon.
For commuters and households, the weekly drop can reduce the cost of filling a tank, especially for drivers covering long distances between McAllen, Edinburg, Mission and other Rio Grande Valley communities. The savings are smaller for short trips, but they can add up for workers with daily commutes, parents making multiple school and activity trips, and weekend travelers.
Diesel eased for one day but rose from last week
Diesel moved down 4.2 cents from the previous dayโs $5.158 average. However, it was still 19.2 cents higher than the $4.924 average listed one week earlier.
The diesel price was also $1.929 above the year-ago average of $3.187. That difference matters beyond individual drivers. Higher diesel costs can affect trucking, delivery routes, construction equipment, agricultural operations and service businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles or pass transportation costs through to customers.
Diesel remaining above $5 also leaves less room for relief among contractors, independent operators and fleet managers, even though the latest one-day change was lower. A single daily decline does not establish a sustained downward trend.
McAllen pump prices vary by station
A McAllen station-price listing updated at 6:56 a.m. July 31 showed regular gasoline at $3.69 per gallon at Samโs Club. That was a membership price and may not be available to every customer. The listing showed several non-membership chains, including Walmart Neighborhood Market, H-E-B Gas, Murphy USA, Valero and Exxon, at about $3.74.
Those pump prices are individual station examples, while AAAโs numbers are metro averages. They should not be treated as interchangeable, and prices can change during the day or differ by location, fuel grade, payment method and membership status.
Drivers planning a longer trip may want to compare stations before filling up. Business owners and workers using diesel should also track both the daily price and the weekly direction, since dieselโs latest decline came alongside a higher week-over-week average.
