Farmington Hills-Area Gas Prices Rise as Diesel Hits $5.484

For Farmington Hills-area drivers, the latest AAA benchmark shows regular gasoline and diesel moving higher at different speeds. On Aug. 1, 2026, the Metro Detroit average was $4.339 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.484 for diesel.

Regular gasoline was nearly flat from the previous day, rising 0.5 cents. It was nevertheless up 12.6 cents from a week earlier and 23.4 cents from a month earlier.

Diesel is rising faster

Diesel posted the sharper short-term increase. The Metro Detroit average reached $5.484 per gallon, up 3.1 cents from the previous day, 19.9 cents from a week earlier and 20 cents from a month earlier.

The difference matters most for diesel-dependent operators. Contractors, landscapers, delivery companies, repair businesses and other service operators may face higher costs when trucks and equipment require repeated fill-ups. Restaurants and retailers could also feel indirect pressure if transportation costs rise for deliveries and supply runs.

What the increases could mean for households

For gasoline-powered households, the weekly increase adds about $1.26 to a 10-gallon fill-up or $2.52 to a 20-gallon fill-up, before station-to-station differences are considered.

A 19.9-cent weekly diesel increase adds nearly $4 to a 20-gallon fill-up. That can be more noticeable for contractors, fleet operators, delivery drivers and other businesses using larger tanks or filling up frequently.

Metro benchmark, not a Farmington Hills station price

AAA’s Metro Detroit figures are regional benchmarks, not a citywide average for every Farmington Hills station. Prices can vary by location, brand, payment method and timing, so individual pumps may be above or below the regional figures.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration‘s latest Weekly Petroleum Status Report was released July 29 and covers petroleum supply data for the week ending July 24. Michigan‘s Public Service Commission has also cited energy-market uncertainty and the potential for higher costs in its 2026 summer appraisal.
