The figures measure different things. The $3.539 regular-gas price is a posted price at one specific station, not a citywide average. The diesel number is a station-listing average, with prices ranging from approximately $4.69 to $4.89 per gallon.
Regular gas is below the metro benchmark
The 7-Eleven price at 909 SW Oldham Parkway was about 27 cents below the Kansas City, Missouri-only regular-gas average reported by AAA. AAA’s Wednesday benchmark was $3.8116 per gallon.
AAA’s metro figure was down from $3.8205 the previous day and below $3.8513 a week earlier. Regular gasoline in the broader metro data was therefore lower than both the prior-day and prior-week benchmarks, although prices can vary significantly from one station to another.
Diesel is close to the metro average
Lee’s Summit-area diesel listings averaged approximately $4.82 per gallon. That was slightly below AAA’s Kansas City, Missouri-only diesel benchmark of $4.8662.
AAA reported the metro diesel average at $4.8753 the previous day and $4.8664 a week earlier. Diesel was lower than the prior day but essentially unchanged from the previous week in the metro data.
