Valrico’s Durant and Miller Road intersection slated for a future roundabout under $4.8 million county plan

Hillsborough County’s current project record places a future redesign of the Durant Road and Miller Road intersection in Valrico several years away from construction.

Project No. 69679020 is listed in the design phase, with a current estimated total cost of $4,800,252.24. The county’s posted schedule calls for design completion in late 2029, construction to begin in mid-2030 and construction to finish in early 2032.

A four-way stop would become a roundabout

The planned work would convert the existing four-way stop at Durant Road and Miller Road to a roundabout. The county also lists turning-movement improvements and pedestrian enhancements in the project scope.

Hillsborough County identifies mobility, safety and access for vehicles and pedestrians as project objectives. Those are stated objectives, not guarantees of specific reductions in crashes, congestion or travel times.

Sidewalk and ADA work is included

The redesign would update sidewalks and include ADA ramps, curbing and pavement markings. That work is intended to improve access for people walking through the intersection and for people with mobility needs.

For Valrico residents, commuters and nearby businesses, the immediate effect is limited. The intersection remains a four-way stop while the county advances design work, and the current project record documents no near-term construction change.

Construction is projected for 2030 to 2032

Based on the county’s current schedule, construction would begin roughly four years after the August 2, 2026, reporting date. The schedule is a projection, not a construction notice.

The county’s estimate includes $4,956.62 for planning, $2,664,223.89 for design and land, and $2,131,071.73 for construction. The $4.8 million total is a current planning estimate, not a final construction contract price.

Hillsborough County says the cost and schedule figures are its current best estimates, are subject to frequent change and are updated weekly. Residents should expect the timing and price to remain subject to revision as design advances. The county’s FY27 budget page lists recommended capital-improvement documents, but it does not by itself establish a final construction award for this intersection project.

Separate project at Dover/Little Road

Hillsborough County also lists a separate Durant Road intersection project at Dover/Little Road. That project should not be treated as the same development as the Durant and Miller Road work covered here.

An archived March 2024 county fact sheet for the Durant-Miller project showed an earlier estimate of $4,738,284 and construction completion in late 2026. Those figures have since been superseded by the county’s newer project record, which is the current schedule and cost reference.
