BART schedule changes planned for August 10 will affect San Francisco riders
BART is scheduled to begin a systemwide service change on Monday, August 10, 2026, affecting San Francisco riders with longer peak trains, revised departure times and changed transfer procedures at Balboa Park, Daly City and Millbrae.
BART says some departures will shift by a few minutes, so riders should review the new August 10 timetables before commuting. The agency describes the changes as cost neutral and intended to improve reliability, train spacing, transfers and crowding, but the effect will vary by line, direction, station and time of day.
Longer trains on San Francisco-serving lines
Peak Red Line trains are scheduled to run with 10 cars under the new operating plan. On the Yellow Line, eight of the busiest morning trains and six of the busiest afternoon trains will be lengthened to 10 cars during peak periods.
Two additional morning Green Line trains traveling toward San Francisco will run with eight cars. The added capacity is aimed at busy commute-period trips; BART has not promised the same crowding or trip experience for every rider.
The longer-train rollout began July 20 and will carry into the broader August 10 schedule change. The rollout of train lengths and the timetable adjustment are related, but they are separate parts of BART’s plan.
Train spacing and connections will change
For riders traveling from San Francisco toward Berkeley, El Cerrito or Richmond, Yellow and Red Line trains are scheduled to be spaced more evenly. BART plans to replace the current five-minute and 15-minute pattern with trains about 10 minutes apart.
Green and Blue line spacing toward Dublin and Berryessa will also change. BART says the revised pattern will reduce the longest stated platform wait from 17 minutes to no more than 12 minutes, which may make some San Francisco-originating trips easier to time.
Riders traveling beyond Daly City toward San Francisco International Airport or Millbrae should review their transfer options. BART advises Blue and Green line passengers to consider transferring to a Red or Yellow Line train at Balboa Park. A transfer at Daly City will require changing platforms.
Daly City platform operations will be different
Beginning with the scheduled August 10 changes, Blue and Green line trains at Daly City will use Platform 3 as an exit-only terminal platform. Boarding for through service will take place on Platforms 1 and 2.
The arrangement matters to San Francisco riders passing through Daly City, especially those continuing toward SFO or Millbrae. Riders who normally transfer there should allow time to follow the revised platform arrangement or consider the Balboa Park transfer guidance from BART.
Millbrae and late-night travel
Some BART trains that currently connect with Caltrain at Millbrae will have different connection times under the August 10 schedule. Passengers traveling between San Francisco BART stations and Caltrain should compare the new BART and Caltrain timetables before leaving.
Late-night construction restrictions will continue between Daly City and Millbrae after 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Those delays are separate from the daytime schedule changes and remain relevant for riders making late trips through the corridor.
Check the timetable before commuting
BART has posted weekday and weekend timetable PDFs for the schedule beginning August 10. The agency says its Trip Planner will be updated to reflect the changes, but riders should use the posted timetables and check BART for later updates before traveling.
For San Francisco commuters, the most immediate practical changes are additional capacity on selected peak trains, more even spacing on several routes and revised transfer procedures at Balboa Park and Daly City. Exact departure times should be checked for each trip rather than assumed to be unchanged.
