West Haven voters face Aug. 11 Democratic primary; city posts notice

West Haven’s City Clerk has posted notice of a Democratic primary scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2026. As of Sunday, August 2, early voting is set to begin Monday, August 3, giving eligible voters several options before primary day.

Primary-day hours

Eligible West Haven voters may vote on August 11 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Any elector standing in line at 8 p.m. must be allowed to cast a ballot.

Early voting runs Aug. 3-9

Early voting is scheduled for August 3 through August 9. The hours vary by date:

• 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on August 4 and 6.

Voters should verify the early-voting location through the official Connecticut election resources and West Haven’s city information. An early-voting location may not be the same as a regular polling place.

Who can vote in the Democratic primary?

Connecticut’s primary rules generally limit a party primary to registered members of that party. A voter registered with another party cannot switch and vote immediately; the Secretary of the State says voters changing party affiliation for the August primary had to make that change by May 11, 2026.

Unaffiliated voters face separate enrollment deadlines. Those seeking to vote during early voting needed to enroll in a party by noon on July 31, 2026. Unaffiliated voters seeking to vote on primary day must enroll by noon on Monday, August 10.
