Glendale’s GUS 1 Shuttle Will Change City Hall and Library Stops Aug. 25

Glendale residents who use the free GUS 1 shuttle to reach City Hall, the Downtown Library or nearby downtown destinations should plan for a different stop beginning Aug. 25, 2026.

The city’s transit notice says GUS 1 will no longer serve City Hall or the Downtown Library during a construction-related detour. Temporary stops will be on the north side of Glenn Drive, between 58th Avenue and 57th Drive.

What changes Aug. 25

GUS 1 is Glendale’s free urban shuttle serving central Glendale destinations including Northern Crossing, Cerreta Candy Company, the Maricopa County Clinic, Glendale City Hall, the Maricopa County Superior Court Complex, Glendale High School, downtown shops and the Velma Teague Library/Murphy Park area.

Beginning Aug. 25, riders should not expect the shuttle to use its regular City Hall or Downtown Library service during the construction-related detour. Instead, riders should look for the temporary Glenn Drive stop on the north side of the street between 58th Avenue and 57th Drive.

The city’s posted transit information does not give an end date for the detour. Riders should not assume the temporary arrangement is permanent or that regular stops will return on a particular date unless Glendale posts another update.

Why the change matters

City Hall and the Civic Center remain public destinations for residents handling city business, attending council meetings, workshops or board and commission meetings, and visiting downtown. Glendale’s public-meetings page identifies the Civic Center at 5750 W. Glenn Drive and City Hall at 5850 W. Glendale Ave. as locations used for public meeting notices and government access.

For riders, the practical effect is a changed boarding and drop-off point. Anyone traveling to a city appointment, public meeting, library visit or downtown business should allow extra time to walk from the temporary Glenn Drive location and confirm the current stop instructions before leaving.

Renovation context

The stop change comes as Glendale has recently completed and opened a major downtown civic-campus renovation. In a June 22 announcement, the city described the project as a three-year, nearly $100 million transformation that included a reimagined City Hall, Council Chambers, the E. Lowell Rogers Amphitheatre and Murphy Park.

The city said the renovated campus opened with events tied to Glendale’s 116th birthday on June 18. The city also described new public-facing features, including a first floor designed as a one-stop shop for people seeking city services. Arizona’s Family independently reported that crews found a 1984 time capsule during the three-year City Hall renovation and that the project concluded with the June 18 ribbon-cutting.

Neither the transit notice nor the cited public-meetings information says that City Hall, the Civic Center or the library is closed. The change concerns where GUS 1 stops while construction-related work continues.

What GUS 1 riders should check

• Start date: The stop change begins Aug. 25, 2026. It is not scheduled to take effect Aug. 3.
• Temporary location: Use the north side of Glenn Drive between 58th Avenue and 57th Drive.
• Operating hours: The city lists GUS 1 service as Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
