Glendale’s new fiscal year puts road repairs and intersection safety in the spotlight
Glendale’s fiscal year began July 1, 2026, with an adopted $1.41 billion budget that makes pavement management, street reconstruction and intersection safety transportation priorities. The practical effect for residents is not one citywide road-building schedule: city records show a mix of design work, scheduled 2026 construction and projects already listed as under construction.
The budget identifies reconstruction on portions of 75th Avenue, a right-turn lane at 59th Avenue and Northern Avenue, a second westbound left-turn lane and signal improvements at 67th Avenue and Greenway Road, additional streetlights and bus pull-outs. The city’s longer FY 2026-2035 transportation program provides the clearest project-stage distinctions.
75th Avenue is listed in design
Glendale’s budget identifies reconstruction of 75th Avenue from Glendale Avenue to just south of Northern Avenue, along with a separate section between Deer Valley and Beardsley roads. In the transportation program’s street-project status list, the Glendale Avenue-to-Northern Avenue segment is marked “Design.”
That means planning is advancing, but the cited record does not establish that reconstruction is under construction. Residents, businesses and people walking or biking along the corridor should look for later city construction notices before treating the segment as an active work zone.
59th and Northern is a budgeted improvement, not a documented work zone
The adopted budget calls for a right-turn lane for southbound traffic on 59th Avenue turning onto Northern Avenue. The transportation program separately identifies a bus bay on 59th Avenue north of Northern Avenue as completed.
The records reviewed do not provide a construction status or schedule for the new right-turn lane. It should therefore be described as a budgeted transportation improvement, not as an active construction project or a confirmed near-term closure.
67th Avenue and Greenway is listed as under construction
The budget calls for a second westbound Greenway Road left-turn lane onto 67th Avenue and traffic-signal improvements at the intersection. The transportation program lists the broader 67th Avenue segment from Greenway Road to Bell Road as “Construction.”
That status is more advanced than the 75th Avenue project’s design listing. It also means the city’s record supports warning drivers and nearby users that construction activity may affect the corridor, while avoiding a specific closure or delay claim that is not included in the cited documents.
Flashing-yellow-arrow work is listed for 2026
Glendale’s Transportation Projects page lists Phase 3 flashing-yellow-arrow installations as “2026 Construction” at these intersections:

The city explains that a flashing yellow arrow allows a driver to turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. The page identifies the work as 2026 construction, but it does not provide a completion date or intersection-by-intersection closure schedule.
Bethany Home Road work has a schedule extending into 2027
Bethany Home Road drainage and reconstruction is the clearest project in the approved records with an active construction schedule affecting a Glendale neighborhood. The city’s project schedule identifies work around the 47th Avenue alignment continuing through 2026 and into 2027.
That makes Bethany Home Road the project most likely to produce immediate, location-specific effects for nearby residents, businesses, pedestrians and drivers. The city’s schedule should be treated as a planning document rather than a guaranteed completion timetable because construction phases and traffic conditions can change.
What residents should take from the project list
Glendale’s FY 2026-27 budget establishes current-year transportation priorities. The FY 2026-2035 program is a longer planning and funding document that includes completed projects, design work, construction and future pipeline items.
