Rowlett asks residents to shape concept for downtown DART station pavilion

Rowlett is asking residents to help shape an early concept for a public pavilion near the Downtown Rowlett DART station, with feedback due by 5 p.m. Sunday, August 9.

The city announced the public-input opportunity on July 24, 2026. The concept is not a final design or an approved construction project. City materials do not establish funding, a construction schedule or a final decision to build the pavilion.

What Rowlett is considering

The proposed open-air pavilion would measure 140 by 110 feet, according to the city. Potential uses include courts that could convert between pickleball and basketball, space for farmers markets and pop-up community events, seating, restrooms and storage.

Those uses remain possibilities rather than commitments. The city says images included with the survey show an early concept and should not be treated as a final design.

Where the concept would go

The proposed location is near the Downtown Rowlett DART Station at Martin Drive and Industrial Street, south of Lakeview Parkway. The existing station serves DART’s Blue Line.

For commuters and downtown visitors, the proposal concerns a possible public space near the existing station. It does not announce a change to DART service.

What residents are being asked

The city-linked survey seeks input on the pavilion’s design, possible uses and connections to the rest of downtown. Residents can submit feedback until 5 p.m. Sunday, August 9.

The feedback is intended to help shape the concept before it advances. Future effects on events, recreation, nearby businesses, traffic, public spending and construction timing remain undecided.

Advisory board’s role

The Downtown Rowlett Advisory Board can make recommendations about downtown planning, but the city says it cannot approve projects, issue permits, commit public funds or negotiate agreements on the city’s behalf.

The pavilion therefore remains at an early public-input stage. Any later project decision would require additional city action and documentation.
