Gainesville Opens Public Comment on Three-Year Affordable Housing Funding Report
Gainesville residents can review and comment on a draft city report covering three years of State Housing Initiatives Partnership funding and the affordable-housing activities it supported.
The public-comment period opened July 20, 2026, and written comments must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2026. The report covers the 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 program years.
What the draft report covers
The City of Gainesville says the draft SHIP annual report summarizes how the city used SHIP funding to implement its Local Housing Assistance Plan and provide affordable-housing assistance to very-low-, low- and moderate-income households.
The report lists $4,170,334.77 in combined funding across the three program years. The totals are:
- 2023-24: $1,849,142.92
- 2024-25: $1,235,242.85
- 2025-26: $1,085,949
The city says those totals include state allocations, program income, interest earned and other funding sources.
Listed SHIP-supported activities include first-time homebuyer purchase assistance, homeowner rehabilitation, mortgage foreclosure intervention, and homebuyer education and training.
The document remains a draft. The funding figures describe the three program years covered by the report; they should not be treated as new money or as a promise of future assistance.

Written comments must include the submitter’s name, address and the interest affected.

Comments may also be emailed to thomasme@gainesvillefl.gov. The city says comments received during the review period will be included with its SHIP Annual Report and forwarded to the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
Residents may review the draft online or obtain a hard copy during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Department of Housing & Community Development in Thomas Center B, second floor, 306 NE Sixth Ave.
Why the report matters locally
For Gainesville households, the report provides a public accounting of the housing-assistance categories covered during the three-year period. Those categories include help with buying a first home, repairing an existing home, addressing mortgage foreclosure risks, and completing homebuyer education.
