Highlands Ranch Parkway reconstruction keeps traffic shifted and trail closed
Reconstruction of Highlands Ranch Parkway between Broadway and Burntwood Way was continuing during the week of July 26, 2026, Douglas County reported. Westbound traffic remained shifted into the eastbound lanes, changing the route for drivers traveling through the Highlands Ranch corridor.
The $6,579,818 project began June 8 and is scheduled to continue through the summer. An earlier county schedule anticipated completion in October 2026, but the county says traffic patterns can change depending on weather and construction progress.
Traffic and trail changes
The work zone has a posted speed limit of 35 mph. Drivers should follow the temporary traffic controls and allow additional time for trips through the Broadway-to-Burntwood segment while the lane shift remains in place.
A bike-and-pedestrian trail connecting East Highlands Ranch Parkway to Ridgeglen Way is closed between Burntwood Way and Broadway. The designated detour sends trail users along Burntwood Way via Ridgeglen Way.
Construction hours are listed as 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays. Saw-cutting operations may continue until 10 p.m., creating the potential for later work activity than the regular construction schedule.
The traffic shift and trail closure affect daily driving, walking and cycling routes through the area, including trips to nearby homes, businesses and other local destinations. The project’s temporary conditions also matter for people who use the corridor as part of regular commuting or neighborhood travel.
What the project includes
Crews are replacing concrete pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk and a raised median along the corridor. The work also includes ADA curb ramps and pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements at Ridgeglen Way and Burntwood Way.
The project calls for a new traffic signal at Ridgeglen Way and replacement of the existing signal at Burntwood Way. Douglas County described the work as an effort to address aging infrastructure and improve a well-traveled Highlands Ranch corridor.
Castle Rock Construction Company of Colorado, LLC, is the contractor. The county’s update describes the reconstruction as ongoing rather than complete, so drivers and trail users should continue following posted signs and the marked detour.
Douglas County has not stated an exact date for reopening the trail or moving to each subsequent traffic phase. The October completion date remains the county’s earlier anticipated schedule, not a guaranteed reopening date.
