Edwardsburg plans request for homeowner repair funds, with 15-day objection period to follow

The Village of Edwardsburg plans to request the release of Michigan State Housing Development Authority Community Development Block Grant funds for homeowner rehabilitation, according to a notice dated July 16, 2026.

The village said it expected to submit the request on or about July 23. The request concerns a five-year environmental review covering MSHDA CDBG-funded homeowner rehabilitation in Edwardsburg.

The proposed effort is intended to help homeowners earning at or below 80% of area median income address essential repairs. The notice describes the goal as improving residents’ quality of life while bringing eligible work into compliance with applicable requirements.

Work would have to meet several standards

Any rehabilitation work supported through the program would have to follow CDBG guidelines, local building codes and MSHDA Housing Rehabilitation Standards. Those requirements would connect the assistance not only to household income eligibility, but also to the condition and compliance of the work performed on participating homes.

The income threshold identifies the households the program is intended to serve, but it does not mean that every homeowner below the limit would automatically receive assistance. The notice does not describe an application process, a selection formula or the number of homes that could be included.

Objection period would follow the request

MSHDA would accept objections for 15 days after the anticipated submission or the actual receipt of the request, whichever occurs later. Objections would need to be based on the procedural or environmental grounds identified in the notice.

The July 16 notice announces Edwardsburg’s intent to seek a release of funds. It does not announce a release-of-funds decision, the total grant amount or the number of homes or repair projects that could be served. It also does not establish when applications or construction would begin.

For homeowners, the next identified step is the village’s anticipated July 23 submission. The timing of the objection period will depend on that submission and on when MSHDA receives the request. Any later funding decision and program schedule would determine when eligible residents could pursue repairs.

School millage vote set for Aug. 4

Edwardsburg Public Schools also reminded residents to vote Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, on renewal of the district’s non-homestead operating millage.
