Alabama reports measles case, warns of Huntsville exposures
Alabama health officials reported one adult measles case on Oct. 13 after positive PCR test results. The Alabama Department of Public Health said the Northern Public Health District resident had traveled internationally and likely contracted measles outside the United States.
ADPH said possible exposure occurred at a Subway at 7900 Bailey Cove Road SE on Oct. 4, 5 and 6. Its alert lists the hours as noon to 3 p.m.; a same-day news release gives the start time as 11:30 a.m. Both notices list possible exposure at the Publix at 12796 Bailey Cove Road SE on Oct. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The department advised people who were at either location during those periods to check their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms. ADPH says measles incubation can last 7 to 21 days, with symptoms averaging 10 to 12 days after exposure. Based on the latest listed exposure date, the outer 21-day period runs through Oct. 27.
