Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced a $25 million Uncompensated Care Grant opportunity on Oct. 20, 2026, intended to support care for uninsured residents. The Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) will administer the grants. The governorโs office says intended recipients are federally qualified health centers and eligible local health departments in areas not currently served by those centers. Planned services include acute visits, chronic-disease management and behavioral-health care as part of a routine source of primary care for people who lose coverage.
The release describes grants as available for one year, but does not give application or award dates or say whether providers have received funding. The announcement does not establish that grant-funded services are available to patients now.
MHCC had sought public comment on a draft grant plan, with comments due Sept. 7, 2026, at 3 p.m. ET. Mooreโs announcement followed 43 days later. The sequence shows that a draft-plan comment period preceded the announcement; it does not establish whether MHCC finalized the plan or what application terms apply.
