Wichita City Council approved a $1.619 million Affordable Housing Fund expenditure and an agreement with the Wichita Housing Authority on Oct. 20. The cityโs meeting recap records the vote as 7-0.
The plan concerns 21 Housing Authority properties intended to become affordable rentals. KMUW reports that the city plans to acquire the homes, sell them to developers for rehabilitation, provide $40,000 per property for repairs and require developers to accept tenants with affordable-housing vouchers.
At the reported repair amount, 21 properties would represent $840,000 in assistanceโabout 52% of the approved $1.619 million expenditure. That is a calculation from the per-property figure, not a separately reported repair total.
KMUW reported that the city expected to acquire the properties sometime in 2027. The approval authorizes the plan; it does not mean the homes have been acquired or renovated, or are currently available to rent.
