Wichita Gas Prices Tick Up While Diesel Holds Near $4.80

Regular gasoline prices moved slightly higher across the Wichita metro area on Thursday, July 30, while diesel remained essentially unchanged near $4.80 per gallon.

AAA’s latest Wichita metro price check listed regular gasoline at $3.792 per gallon, up from $3.774 the previous day. Diesel was listed at $4.793 per gallon, edging down from $4.794.

Regular gas is higher than last week

The increase in regular gasoline was small on a daily basis, but the metro average remained above the level recorded one week earlier. AAA listed regular gas at $3.646 a week ago, putting Thursday’s average 14.6 cents higher.

That difference may be noticeable for commuters and households filling larger vehicles. Drivers who regularly travel across the Wichita area may also see prices that differ from the metro average depending on the station, neighborhood and time of day.

Diesel remains near $4.80

Diesel prices were effectively flat from Wednesday to Thursday, with the AAA average slipping by just one-tenth of a cent. Even so, diesel was higher than a week earlier, when AAA listed the Wichita metro average at $4.635 per gallon. That represents an increase of 15.8 cents.

The diesel move matters beyond individual drivers. Trucking companies, delivery operators, contractors, farmers, construction firms, restaurants and other service businesses often have less flexibility when fuel costs rise. Higher operating costs can eventually affect delivery charges, service prices or business margins, although the local price data does not establish a specific cause for Thursday’s movement.

One Wichita station was listing lower prices

A current station-level listing showed why shoppers may find prices below or above the metro benchmark. The Walmart fuel station at 501 E. Pawnee St. was listing regular gasoline at $3.54 per gallon and diesel at $4.70 when checked.

Those figures represent one station’s listing, not Wichita’s citywide or metro-wide average. The station page marked the prices as updated 19 minutes before the check. Prices can change during the day and vary from one location to another, so drivers making a large purchase may benefit from checking nearby options before filling up.

For weekend travelers, commuters and fuel-intensive local businesses, the main takeaway is that regular gas has continued to run higher than last week while diesel remains close to $4.80 and is also above its prior-week level.
