Wichita shooting suspect surrenders; police allege carjacking
Xavion Dates surrendered at Wichita City Hall at about 1:20 p.m. on October 8, the day after Aaliyah Wilson, 22, was fatally shot, Wichita police said. Police said Dates was booked on suspicion of murder, carjacking and theft.
Police said officers responded at 6:18 p.m. on October 7 to an apartment complex at 330 S. Tyler after Wilsonโs sister reported the shooting. Officers found Wilson with an upper-body gunshot wound and attempted CPR. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead, police said.
Police alleged Dates left the scene and took a white 2020 Toyota RAV4 from a driver in a carjacking. The driver was not injured, and police later located the vehicle at 505 N. Rock Road, according to the department.
In its October 9 announcement, police said the case would be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorneyโs Office for review of formal charges. The murder, carjacking and theft offenses are allegations, not findings of guilt.
