Georgetown City Council voted 5โ1 on Oct. 27, 2026, to authorize the city to pursue property interests through eminent domain for Wolf Ranch Parkway between SH 29 and Rivery Boulevard. The motion identifies the affected portion as property owned by Wolf Ranch Residential Community Association, Inc.
The authorization covers necessary fee-simple rights, easements or lesser interests, but does not specify which rights would ultimately be acquired. The vote does not mean the association has already lost possession or that compensation has been set: it is not a completed taking. District 7 cast the sole no vote.
The project includes more than added road capacity
The project description presented to council called for one additional lane in each direction, a raised median and turn lanes. It also included a shared-use path, drainage and curb work, signal and ADA-ramp upgrades, and a roundabout at Memorial Drive. The described work combines added road capacity with walking and bicycling facilities and intersection upgrades.
Staff said timely right-of-way access was needed for utility relocation and work before construction.
Offers preceded the proposed condemnation filing
Staff said the city had sent initial and final offers and discussed a possession-and-use agreement. No acquisition agreement or possession-and-use agreement had been reached. Staff described the final-offer status as rejected or unanswered.
At the meeting, staff said the cityโs next step would be to file a condemnation petition. Staff said a special commissioners hearing would follow to determine compensation, and that a party rejecting the commissionersโ award could seek a trial. The meeting record does not establish whether the city filed a petition after Oct. 27.
