Las Vegas fall Citizens Police Academy set for Aug. 26 start
The City of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety has announced its fall 2026 Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week community program scheduled to start Wednesday, Aug. 26.
The academy is set to run on Wednesdays through Nov. 18. Classes are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and enrollment is limited to 35 students.
The program is intended to give residents a structured opportunity to learn about law-enforcement and public-safety operations. It is a community academy, not a police employment or sworn-officer training program.
Schedule and graduation requirement
The announced schedule spans Aug. 26 through Nov. 18, 2026. Although the academy is described as a 12-week program, no class is scheduled for Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Participants must attend at least 10 of the 12 classes to graduate. That requirement means students can miss no more than two classes and still complete the academy, based on the city’s stated attendance standard.
The Wednesday evening schedule establishes when enrolled participants would be expected to attend, while the Nov. 18 session is the program’s scheduled conclusion.
Applications and selection process
The city listed July 29, 2026, as the application deadline. That date had passed by the assignment date, so the announcement does not confirm that applications remain open.
Applicants selected for the academy are to receive background checks and a brief interview, according to the city. The announcement does not say how many applicants applied, whether all 35 places have been filled or whether late applications will be considered.
For prospective participants, the next confirmed date in the city’s published schedule is the Aug. 26 start of classes. The academy’s limited enrollment and attendance requirement apply to the fall session announced by the department.
