Springfield fuel watch: Georgia gas stays above $4, diesel above $5
Springfield GA Gas & Diesel Watch – Georgia fuel prices eased a bit May 11, but regular stays above $4 and diesel above $5, with Savannah as nearby benchmark.
Gas and diesel both eased, but not by much
Springfield-area drivers are seeing a small pullback at the pump, but prices are still high enough to matter for daily commuting and business trips. AAA’s May 11 check shows Georgia regular gas at $4.038 a gallon and diesel at $5.111. Both are a little lower than yesterday, but they remain painfully elevated for anyone filling up often.
AAA’s current Georgia page does not show a Springfield-specific metro row, so the closest benchmark on the table is Savannah. There, regular is $3.995 and diesel is $5.091. That gives Springfield readers a nearby reference point for what pumps in the region are doing right now without suggesting every station in or around town is at the same price.
What the latest numbers say
On the Georgia average, regular gas is down from $4.058 yesterday, but it is still above the week-ago level of $3.859, the month-ago level of $3.720, and the year-ago mark of $2.886. Diesel followed the same pattern at the state level: $5.111 today, down slightly from $5.139 yesterday, but above $5.033 a week ago and far above $3.447 a year ago.
Savannah’s benchmark tells a similar story for regular gasoline. At $3.995 today, it is lower than yesterday’s $4.010, but still above the week-ago average of $3.906, the month-ago average of $3.793, and the year-ago average of $2.963. Savannah diesel is $5.091 today, down from $5.126 yesterday and below last month’s $5.418, but still higher than a year ago at $3.401.
Why this matters for Springfield drivers and businesses
For commuters, a few cents per gallon may not sound like much, but it adds up fast over a week of driving. For contractors, delivery drivers, landscapers, and other service businesses, diesel prices hit even harder because trucks and equipment burn through fuel quickly. Restaurants, retailers, and other small businesses also feel the pressure through deliveries, pickups, and mileage reimbursements.
The bigger backdrop is still firm. AAA’s national fuel report says the U.S. regular gasoline average rose 25 cents for a second straight week, and the federal Energy Information Administration’s latest gasoline and diesel update was released May 5. That does not point to quick relief. It suggests fuel prices are still being pushed around by the wider market, not just local station pricing.
For Springfield readers, the practical takeaway is simple: today’s dip is welcome, but it is only a small step down from a still-expensive level. If you are planning a longer drive, hauling equipment, or trying to keep a business route budget on track, it is worth checking a few stations before you fill up.
