Federal contractors face a July 23 comment deadline on FAR overhaul
First FAR overhaul proposals were published June 23 and are open for comment through July 23, 2026. ([govinfo.gov](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2026-06-23/pdf/2026-12559.pdf))
The federal procurement rulebook is in a formal rewrite. On June 23, the FAR Council published the first round of proposed rules for the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul, and comments are due July 23, 2026. The White House said this is the first of three releases, and the rules are still proposed, not final.
For the first four cases, the Federal Register notices cover FAR parts 1, 2, 4, 33, 39, 40, 52, and 53 in Case 2026-001; parts 6, 7, 10, 18, 26, 37, 41, and 52 in Case 2026-002; parts 5, 24, 29, and 52 in Case 2026-005; and parts 3, 49, and 52 in Case 2026-007.
The White House says the broader overhaul is meant to simplify the FAR in plain language, align it more closely with statute, and add a regulatory sunset review process every four years. If finalized, that could affect how agencies write solicitations, how contractors prepare bids, and how procurement teams document decisions.
What to watch next
July 23 is the immediate deadline. After that, the FAR Council can review comments and decide whether to revise the proposals before final rules are issued. The White House also says two more packages are expected, so this looks like the opening stage of a larger rewrite.
