ALDOT announces $1.8 million US 84 resurfacing project through Cowarts

The Alabama Department of Transportation announced July 10 a roughly $1.8 million project to resurface and add new traffic striping along U.S. 84 in Cowarts and Dothan. In Cowarts, the work limits run from Jester Street to Broad Street.

Construction was scheduled to begin July 13, 2026, weather permitting. ALDOT expects the project to be completed by winter 2026, although the department has not provided a firm completion date.

Work planned along US 84

The Cowarts portion will include roadway resurfacing and traffic striping. The project places construction activity along a defined stretch of U.S. 84 between Jester Street and Broad Street, a corridor used by local travelers and businesses operating along or near the route.

Lewis Incorporated of Headland, Alabama, was awarded the contract as the lowest responsive bidder. The approximate project cost is $1.8 million.
